Day 2. Dry Menorca
Breakfast and preparation of horses. Leaving from “Eugues de Flo” towards Torre del Ram. Throug this stretch we wil be able to observe the different traditional buildings of the countryside. The most representative ones are the endless dry walls, as well as the huts for the animals. We will reach Cala Morell; there we will stop for a picnic at the Caves of Cala Morell, on the North coast of Minorca. This is the location of one of the most important archaeological sites of the island, the Necropolis of Cala Morell, containing a set of fourteen caves caved out of the cliff-edge artificially. This necropolis also has around twenty small oval-shaped cavities or niches, known as “capades de moro”, which may have been used as ossuaries, urns or for the burial of children.
After regaining some energy we will continue along the route to Son Àngel; there we will take the saddles off the horses, and riders will be able to have a refreshment, discover the facilities and other horses on the farm. You will also be able to admire one of the pure-breed Minorcan studs which is so representative of our land and which will serve as an introduction to the patron festivities of our towns and villages.
Day 3. The Tramuntana Route
Breakfast at Biniatram and transfer to Son Àngel to get the horses ready for the next stretch of the route.
During this day we will pass by the Pla de Mar to the virgin beach of Cala Pilar, where we will find a fresh water source. The clean, intense, blue water contrasts with the reddish rocks and the yellowish sand, creating the landscape that best identifies the northern coast of Minorca. This stretch of the route goes along one of the most abrupt parts of the north coast, with a continued series of elevations and depressions in the terrain. At “Els Alocs” and Son Ermità we will be offered a typical farmer’s lunch (or a picnic at Els Alocs as an alternative). We will continue after lunch towards Cala’n Calderer, Cala Barril, Pregonda and we will then take a turn towards the farm of Sant Vicent where we will leave the horses and then be transferred to
the hotel, to have dinner and spend the night.
Day 4. Minorca wildest coast
Breakfast and transfer to Sant Vicent; we will get the horses ready and start towards Binimel·là and Cap de Cavalleria. This stretch goes along one of the best-preserved areas of the Minorca coastline. After leaving Binimel·la Beach, the path continues inland between croplands and stonewalls until Cavalleria Beach. At this site, we will be able to witness impressive dune systems where vegetal communities grow. Visit the Cap de Cavalleria Ecomuseum and picnic in Cala Viola.
Afther lunch, the path mainly borders the coastline along paths with colourful contrasts, weirdly shaped rocks and imposing cliffs. Then we will carry on to Cala Tirant and we will end the day at the Hostal Port Fornells, a family accommodation, where the owners have horses and participate in the Island festival of “Jaleo”.
Breakfast and transfer of horses and riders to the parking of Torre D’en Galmés. While we are preparing horses, you can go to visit this fantastic place from where we will take the Camí de Cavalls at Llucalari. The path continues to the beach of Son Bou, the largest of the island, where we will find an early Christian basilica and dunes of high ecological value. We will turn inland through the farmland fields of Son Bou meadow, also known as Albufera de ses Canèssies, the most important one after the natural park. We will stop for lunch at the restaurant Es Bruc. After lunch we will stop to visit the amazing Cova des Coloms.
Day 6. Coves and crystalline water
Breakfast and preparation of horses to take the trail to Cala Mitjana, Cala Galdana and Macarella. We will start from Binigaus and we will go across the croplands of Binigaus, the ravines of Trebalúger and es Calafat. Then we will continue until the idyllic Cala Mitjana that precedes the virgin corner of Cala Mitjaneta. We will follow the path until we come to Cala Galdana. At the Algendar ravine of Cala Galdana, we will sight a diversity of birds and we will explore caves and grottos.
Not far from Macarella is the farmhouse of Torralbet, where we will stop for a typical Minorcan farm meal including cold meats made from pork (sobrassada, carn i xua, cuixot, etc.) and cheese, all produced and sold directly at the farm. After a very good lunch and a siesta, we will continue until reaching Macaralleta and Macarella where many aquatic species coexist at the reeds of Santa Anna. Then, crossing wild olive woods and juniper woods we will arrive to the dunes of the paradisiacal beach of Cala en Turqueta. Transfer to the hotel.
